Italian Ice cream in Blarney
Written by Donncha on May 31, 2008 – 12:44 pm -The first ice cream store in Blarney opened it’s doors for the several weeks ago with a special offer of free ice cream all day but I didn’t stop by there until today.
The store is Il Gelato and it’s around the corner from the main square in Blarney. If you’re in the area, you owe yourself the chance to try out their delicious produce. They offer a range of flavours from the usual vanilla, to chocolate, mint, strawberry and a few other unusual ones. I bought a large tub of chocolate and strawberry. Disappointingly, I thought the tub was quite small and too expensive until I tasted it. It must be the richest and creamiest ice cream I’ve ever tasted! We were after dinner in the Blarney Castle Hotel but I had room for dessert yet I could barely finish the tub!
We all enjoyed our ice cream, and even Adam got a taste of it, despite my earlier protestations that he wouldn’t taste ice cream until he was much older! I’m glad his first taste of ice cream was a good one.
A large tub is €4.80 which seems expensive, but it’s worth it. Delicious!

Fifty years with WordPress
Written by Donncha on May 29, 2008 – 12:21 pm -Ah yes, them were the days when we had to type blog posts on quaint old keyboards. Can you imagine it? You actually had to write everything letter by letter. Today’s thought entry systems are so much more convenient don’t you think?
That there Matt fella is still the youngster he always was. He may not be quite as fast on his feet but that embedded camera in his skull sure takes some snazzy photos. My camera gives me a headache, especially when the lens doesn’t focus fast enough. Great to see that mind blog integration stuff working out for him though. I can’t believe blogging has come so far in such a short time.
Oh wait! Fifty? It’s only been five. Where have the years gone? Matt noticed that I officially joined the WordPress team 5 years ago today! At the time I was working on the predecessor to WordPress MU, b2++ that was running on Linux.ie Blogs. It was a sometimes hard slog. MU was always on the sidelines of the WordPress community and somehow it escaped the attention of the vast majority of people online. I noticed many surprised voices when people found out what was running on WordPress.com!
Two years later and Matt starts Automattic and I come on board to work on WordPress.com and I’ve never looked back. The GPL licensed WordPress and WordPress MU go from strength to strength.
As a final note on this rambling post, if you enjoy using WordPress, head over to gnu.org and read their philosophy page to find out what influences Matt and Alex and everyone else who contribute to GPLed software projects.

High Blood Pressure – Basic Information and Its Causes
Author: Brainpulse India
High blood pressure is also referred as hypertension. The condition of high blood pressure arises when the force of blood flow increases significantly from the normal pressure in the walls of the arteries. High blood pressure is of two types - Primary and secondary. The primary high blood pressure indicates that there is no specific medical cause or reason to explain the patient’s condition. It is also referred as essential high blood pressure. The secondary high blood pressure happens due to the other conditions of the body such as kidney problems or tumors.
During the high blood pressure period, the force of blood flow increases and which raises the pressure on the arteries to flow the blood in the entire body. Arteries are the vessels that carry the blood from the pumping heart to the entire organs of the body. Every time when the heart beats, it pumps out the blood in the vessels with the systolic pressure and when it comes to rest between the beats, it has the low pressure which is called as diastolic pressure.
High blood pressure has several reasons. This means that the multiple factors jointly cause the high blood pressure in the body. However, all the reasons for the problem are not identified; but it has been observed that the high blood pressure tends to develops in the people who have high intake of salt in their diet. The other causes commonly found for the problem are obesity, hereditary susceptibility, advancing age and kidney failure etc. The genetic factor is one of the essential reasons for the hypertension in the younger generations of the family.
The treatments for high blood pressure are few. The patient needs to make significant changes in the diet plan. Intake of salt and caffeine should be reduced from the daily diet. If you have the habit of smoking and drinking habits then it also need to be controlled. The high blood pressure could be controlled even without taking the help of drugs and medicines. It can be cured by herbal medicines and by making some changes in the diet plan. But if the condition of the patient becomes severe then it is recommended to consult the doctor as soon as possible.

Taking Control - Freedom From Tyranny
Author: Robert A. Meyer
We live in a society where many courses of action are open to the individual-despite the laws and regulations passed by would-be dictators and absolute moralists. You, as an individual, can control your life and the direction you desire it to go.
Unfortunately out of fear and insecurity many allow others to influence their thinking and actions. There are individuals in relationships where a tyrannical partner constantly abuses them. Imagine someone having a hold on you. It could be your spouse, a relative, your boss. Notice the control they have over you. It’s uncomfortable to even think about it. If you are in this situation it must be very painful. Your suffering could possibly be unimaginable.
For example, when a lover controls your feelings, threaten you with dire consequences if don’t do what they want, you are no longer free. Your autonomy is gone. You’re walking on eggshells. Your self-esteem is fading away or already gone.
No amount of trying to please this person will bring relief. He or she withholds all expressions of love-even if you make one little mistake. You live in constant fear of losing this love–if that’s what you can call it. Your security is at the mercy of another. One wrong word, one inadvertent act, a misunderstanding can shake your whole foundation.
The day of enlightenment arrives when you no longer accept this. You determine what your values are and you live them. No compromise of your principles is possible.
Freedom
Now imagine you are totally free. No one or nothing has any control over you. You experience personal liberty and freedom. Your relationships are at a value for value level. You supply each other pleasure, ecstasy, comfort and that rare gift-peace of mind.
A critical part of living The Libertarian Way is you must free yourself of the obstacles that keep life from being an exciting journey. Happily, there is a philosophy of life you can begin to believe and practice immediately to eliminate an abusive relationship-or to make sure you’re never the victim of someone’s tyranny.
Individualism
Adopt a philosophy of individualism. Realize that you’re the most important person in the world. I realize that altruists, absolute moralists and irrationally selfish people may want you to believe otherwise. Heck, it’s in their best interest for you to do what they want you to do. Sadly, it is often someone closest to you that attempts to exert control.
Practicing a philosophy of individualism doesn’t mean you’re going to step on other people. It means you know what’s in your best interest. You practice rational selfishness. I know the term “selfishness” has a bad rap. Who gave it a bad rap? Altruists and irrationally selfish people who want you to act in their best interest.
Being an individualist doesn’t result in you becoming an uncaring, non-giving person. On the contrary–you become a person who trades value for value. You experience loving, rewarding relationships. Some of the most rationally selfish people are also the most generous with their time and money. If you scratch the surface of an altruist or absolute moralist you find someone who extorts or takes far more than they give. And often their taking has destructive consequences for all concerned.
Since you desire to be in value for value relationships here is an important principle set forth by Ayn Rand.
“I swear, by my life and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”
What this means is that you do it your way. Make this vow to yourself. “I do it my way.”
Sometimes listening to inspirational music can motivate you to live and think better. When I listen to Frank Sinatra sing “My Way” I know my life is important. The beauty of the song and message is enough to move me to tears of joy. Yes, my life is important-and I guarantee that your life is important both on a physical and spiritual level.
You discover that being an individualist results in you becoming a loving, giving, happy and joyous person. Life is pleasure, ecstasy and rewarding relationships. You live “The Libertarian Way.”

WordPress Stickers and Badges
Written by Donncha on May 26, 2008 – 9:47 am -This was a nice surprise. While enjoying a lovely meal in the Castle Hotel in Blarney a courier rang me with a package. I wasn’t expecting anything but luckily he was close by and I met him in front of the local Garda station. Brimming with excitement I ripped open the package sending stickers and badges flying everywhere. Some landed in my burger, a few badges in my wife’s quiche and the baby grabbed a sticker or two before they fell on the ground.
No, I’m joking, but I did get a jiffy bag with a nice portrait of (most of) Automattic in Arizona and quite a few badges and stickers.
Before you ask, I’m not sending anyone any. I’ve already promised stickers to one person who’s been waiting a few months, and John probably thinks he’ll get his badges and stickers this year but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I was him. Sorry!
On the other hand, if I meet you on the street, I may have a supply of badges and stickers in my camera bag so don’t be afraid to ask. I will of course have badges and stickers to give out at the Doneraile photowalk next month. If you’re around the area, feel free to join us exploring and photographing Doneraile Park!
