Organically Grown Fruits and Vegetables - Can Organic Help Eliminate World Hunger?
By Connie Ragen Green

Many people prefer to have organically grown fruit and vegetables for health reasons. They wish to avoid the potentially harmful chemicals and pesticides that are used in agriculture all over the world. An interesting outcome of this discussion is that changing over from traditional farming to organic could help to eliminate world hunger.

When farmers switch over from traditional to organic farming of crops there is typically a drop in the crop yield while the chemicals and pesticides are taken out of the soil. Right now that would be disastrous for the world’s hunger problem. However, if farmers in both Europe and North America began to switch over to organic the people of Africa would benefit almost immediately. Africa is where the largest numbers of people live who do not have enough food. They would not have to import as much food, which would give them enough of a supply to stave off massive hunger. The savings in time and transportation costs would provide more food for the people of Africa.

This changeover would take about ten to fifteen years, but it would be well worth it if more people throughout the world would have enough food to eat every day. Hunger is a problem based on location and transport of food more than a shortage of food.

Also, if the organic crops in Africa produce as well as expected they could end up with more than enough food for everyone and, possibly, even enough to export to other places at a higher price.

This would be a solution to having a global supply of food for the first time in modern history while also eliminating chemicals and pesticides. This would be beneficial for people, animals, and plants throughout the world.

How to Take the First Step to Fight Global Hunger
By Kim Petit

It is easy to believe that technology has helped everyone. We live such comfortable lives, after all. We really benefit from an almost remarkable level of abundance and convenience. Even middle and working class people tend to have plenty to eat, good sources of transportation, and a wide variety of recreational activities that are not available in a lot of the world. We work longer hours than we used to, but we still do have plenty of recreation time to unwind.

Once you look at world hunger statistics, however,
it becomes clear that all is not so rosy . In much of the world, poverty is a daily reality. Even hunger in America is a problem. This was shocking to me the first time I learned this. I had a teacher who had us study world hunger. He wanted us to be aware not only of our neighborhood, our state, and our country, but of our entire extended world community. Before he showed us an article, he asked what we thought about world hunger statistics. I was confident in my reply. I told him that, except for a few isolated areas, I believed that we had wiped out hunger and poverty in the world. Boy, was I in for a shock when I read the world hunger statistics!

The really scary thing was how easily I slipped back into a state of everything as usual,
even after I was alerted to the reality of world hunger statistics. We like to think that we care about our fellow man, but when we look at our actions on the whole, it is quite clear that we don’t. It is so easy to forget about world poverty statistics, to go on living a life of affluence as if nothing is wrong. I am as guilty as anyone.

A few years later, however, I became so frustrated with my own apathy
that I knew that the time for action was at hand. I decided to join a group to end world hunger. A friend of mine laughed at my naïve idealism. He also was familiar with the world hunger statistics, and he argued that it would not be as easy as I thought to end poverty. He knew that economic factors were complex, and felt that there was no easy solution.

I realize his arguments are valid, but I think it is even more important to realize that the world hunger statistics demand immediate action by all of us. If everyone was dedicated to ending world hunger, a solution could be found!

A Look In The Mirror
By Selena Richardson

That’s all it takes to change the world. Take a long hard look in the mirror and really notice who you are.

We’re all screaming for peace right now - not just world peace - but peace in our cities, in our workplaces, in our homes and in our minds. There has to be a better way to end this madness.

We need a new way of doing things. Yet we seem to be stuck in outdated modes of thought that have not been working. For if they did, we wouldn’t be in the predicaments we are in now. The past will keep repeating itself until we make a conscious choice to go in a new direction.

Going in a new direction begins inside of you, of me, and of us as individuals. Until we change as individuals, only then can the world change.

One of my favorite quotes is from Mahatma Gandhi - ‘You must be the change you want to see in the world.’ So to have world peace we have to look in the mirror. Take a look and try to find the peace you’re searching for in your heart.

If you can’t find it ask yourself why. It’s not missing - it’s been there with you all along waiting for you to begin your search within. Peace isn’t hard to find at all. You just have to dig from underneath all of the rubble - fear and anger. Once you push the fear and anger to the side peace will be in plain view.

When you find the peace in your heart you start to exude it. It becomes infectious. Joy soon follows and a sense of calm is not too far behind. All of this from one good look in the mirror. One hard look at who you really are. That’s all it takes to get the ball rolling.

And it’s easy to pass it on. Remind your loved ones to find their peace within. They’ll know it can be done because they would have seen the transformation in you. Be a walking example of peace and watch how it spreads.

When others come to you full of fear and anger remember the peace within yourself and gently remind them that no matter how bad it gets it will eventually work itself out for the best.

We get what we dwell upon so if we keep our thoughts based on fear and anger that’s what we’ll continue to get. Instead let’s focus on peace - peace within ourselves and let these thoughts multiply. Remember, be the change you want to see - so be peaceful within your heart and watch your world begin to mirror that.

World Peace Prayer

filesmall Peace | commentmall Written by admin

World Peace Prayer
By Helene Rothschild

The power of prayer has been proven. It is now time for all of us to offer a World Peace Prayer. Together we can make a difference. Thank you for acknowledging your peaceful power.

To begin, set your intent by saying out loud, or to yourself, “I am helping to create world peace by sending powerful love energy to everyone, as we are all global citizens.”

If you can, close your eyes and relax. Focus on your heart and if possible put your hand(s) over your heart. Love is the power. Love is the answer, the solution.

Now imagine that the limitless pink light of love is flowing from your heart to your surroundings. As it becomes larger and more powerful, it is continuing to flow out to your entire city, state, country, and around the world, until the entire planet is filled with your love energy.

Imagine that the newspaper headlines say: WORLD PEACE IS IN!
There are photos of people joyfully dancing in the streets all over the world. Everyone is happy and using their arms for hugging. Everyone feels free and safe. Everyone is resolving conflicts peacefully with win-win solutions.

Now imagine yourself living in peace. Be aware of how you can make a difference everyday. For example, be kind and caring to everyone including you. “Love yourself to peace” and realize that you are making a major difference as a loving, caring global citizen.

When you feel complete, slowly open your eyes. Feel the floor or earth under your feet so that you feel grounded.

Thank you for helping to make a difference and creating World Peace.

World Peace

World Peace
By Dorothy M. Neddermeyer, PhD

It is nearly impossible to listen to TV/ Radio news or read a newspaper without noticing the outside world is seemingly in a state of disorder and chaos. You might feel compelled to do something to remedy the situation and bring peace, yet you are overwhelmed and unable to know what to do or where to start. One reason for this is that one cannot bring to the world what one does not have as a foundation from which to approach the situation.

Peace starts in your heart, mind and soul, not outside yourself. Until peace is rooted in your life, you can not affect it externally. When you have created peace within, you can share it with others, your community and the world. Those who have personal peace of mind—Deepak Chopra, Neale Donald Walsch, James Redfield, James Twymann, Marianne Williamson, Louise Hay, Caroline Myss, the Dali Lama—to name the most recognized peace troupedors—are working to bring world peace.

The first step in creating world peace, is looking within and evaluating the state of your relationship to peacefulness within.

• Thoughts Create Your Reality
http://ezinearticles.com/?Thoughts-Create-Your-Reality&id=608624
• Peace of Mind—Claim It
http://ezinearticles.com/?Peace-of-Mind—Claim-It&id=607052

People who create personal peace of mind are no different than anyone else. They are ordinary people, who have disciplined themselves or sought professional help to clear out the negative thoughts and troubled emotions. They avoid focusing their thoughts and subsequent feelings on whatever creates a state of personal disorder and chaos. Everyone has the ability to choose how one focuses their thoughts, and practice enables one to grow increasingly more serene as you choose thoughts of peace versus thoughts of conflict. As you practice creating peace you will begin to recognize your thoughts and feelings are in your control, versus in the control of outside influences.

When you notice that you are able to function more and more in deeper emotional waters and less on the tumultuous surface of your ego, you have created a lasting relationship with peace that will enable you to inspire peace beyond yourself. While you are choosing to practice peace you are already helping create world peace—one person and one moment at a time.

Wars are Always Bad No Matter Who Starts Them
By Lance Winslow

Human wars have actually solved some problems, as in the past civilization controlled their population growth and eliminated too many young men of breading age which would cause chaos for those civilizations, so it probably did help in that regard and solve a problem of potential over population.

Another reason past civilizations so heavily promoted wars with nearby societies and civilizations allowing both parties to war to prevent collapse of their civilization, Unfortunately in the present period this war like human events causes chaos of another type due to the incredible destructive power of modern weapons of war.

America is the greatest nation in the World and sometimes when other nations do not listen, will not sit down to discuss things or are highly combative then political talks break down, when this leads to war it is indeed a tragedy. Wars are not always as bad as they appear to be.

If a nation goes to war to prevent a bigger war, then one could say war in that case is noble. Some believe war is always bad no matter who starts it, yet that is not always the case. Generally wars are bad no matter who starts them, but they are not always bad. Consider this 2006.

We Are Tired of War

filesmall War | commentmall Written by admin

We Are Tired of War
By Merry C. Battles

We are tired of war.
Period, end of “sentence”…beginning of thought.
Who creates war…mixed up minds, inflamed emotions.
Two people start in a heated argument.
Two men, who want more money and more power.
“They” begin to create war…for control, and for more possessions.
They have no real power for the good.
An idea for domination takes hold and all the worker bees go in for the fight.
It begins in an instant, a horrible episode, a fleeting enemy - real or unreal?

We are tired of war -
Of its loss of life and joy, of its untimely death for so many young and old souls.
We are graduating on this planet, a step up in evolution.
Will the power hungry souls of this world come along? Or will they be catapulted onto another planet that still must see blood shed on its soil?

When will it end? When will it be enough? When will the people say,
“Hell no, we won’t go!”
Is this new generation the shining ones who will lead us out of disaster?

God Goddess is really in control.
The Great Spirit has said “No more war for beautiful Planet Earth. No more rape and plunder of soft souls and the mighty balance of nature.”

We are here to love.
We are here to place flowers instead of bombs.
We are here to stay and envision PEACE on our Great Mother.
We are here to cherish every breath we receive.
Love yourself. Love one another. See this peace happen.

We are tired of war!

World War I Facts

filesmall War | commentmall Written by admin

World War I Facts
By Jay Villaverde

On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungary throne, was assassinated by a Serbian nationalist group called the “Black Hand”. This was the beginning of a series of events that lead to the First World War.

On July 28, exactly one month after Ferdinand’s assassination, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. Russia came to Serbia’s defense, recruiting its very large army. It took a full six weeks to bring the entire army together.

On August 1, Germany, in defense of its ally, Austria-Hungary, declared war on Russia.
France retaliated and went to war on Russia’s behalf against Germany and Austria-Hungary. Britain, an ally to France, declared war on Germany on August 4. Japan, as Britain’s ally, declared war on Germany on August 23 and, in return, Austria-Hungary declared war on Japan. Italy managed to avoid the war until May 23, 1915.

This was just the beginning of the war. There were numerous other countries that were involved. The war involved countries in North America, South America, Asia and Europe. One country was attacked, causing her ally to retaliate. This became a huge cycle causing a world wide “domino effect.”

Involving most of Europe and spanning over four continents, World War I was the first truly global war. On August 19, 1914, The United States declared a “policy of absolute neutrality.” They kept this position almost through the entire war. On April 6, 1917, the United States officially entered the war after Germany’s policy of unrestricted submarine warfare nearly wiped out America’s commercial shipping. This policy allowed Germany to sink any ship that approached Britain regardless of whether it was a military ship, supply ship or even passenger ship.

The war ended on November 11, 1918 when Germany signed an armistice treaty with the allies. The home front was a huge celebration. Those on the front, however, saw the war’s end in a different light. The fighting continued and several soldiers died even after the official end of the war. It had been over four years since the war began and it was very difficult to adjust to a sudden end to the war. Some suffered psychological breakdowns. They minds were simply so conditioned to the fighting that they could not imagine it being over so abruptly.

The war produced over 40 million casualties. 20 million lives were lost with as many civilian deaths as military deaths. 10 million civilians and nearly 10 million soldiers lost their lives. There were also 21 million injuries. World War I marked the end of the world order which had existed and would be a factor in the outbreak of World War II. Ironically, the First World War became known as “the war to end all wars.”

War on Terror

filesmall War | commentmall Written by admin

War on Terror
By Paul Davis

War on terror
War of terror
War by terror
War for terror
War with terror
War and terror
War is terror
War brings terror
War because of terror
War brought by terror
War gives us terror
War strengthens terror
Warlords love terror
War, blood, and terror
War, bombs, and terror
War without care
We will televise it anywhere
Get some popcorn
And pull up a chair
I smell war in the air
Forget the fact it aint fair
War, war, war
We don’t want you anymore
Go away and let us play
The cost of war makes us pay
Soldiers die night and day
War bankrupts our economy
Forget war, let’s try diplomacy
Draft and sign a peace treaty
Help the suffering and needy
Reallocate all of this war money
Buy food instead of bombs
Remember the results of Vietnam
History does repeat itself often
Soldiers in body bags need coffins
Families of the dead don’t buy in
To the policy of war without end
War doesn’t make many friends
Neither does anyone truly win
Politicians at the helm like to spin
Pontificate and justify their action
Salute and seek personal satisfaction
Claim “Mission Accomplished”
When we are nowhere near it
The American people won’t hear it
Thankfully the media expose lies
Obstruction of justice we despise
Moving only militarily is our demise
When will we awake and realize?
Suicide bombers kill us like flies
It seems President Bush tries
But he needs to open his eyes
Stop trying to birth a new world order
And take care of business at home
Fix our problems here domestically
Before policing the world dogmatically
The Iraqi war has no basis Biblically
Neither is it solid and sound morally
Let’s pack up our troops in Iraq
Be cautious before making an attack
Purpose and plan more next time
Before committing excessive war crimes
Redirect attention to Afghanistan
Fortify forces to take out the Taliban
Pursue Bin Laden deep in Pakistan
Forget lusting for oil in other lands
Let the pretext of war on terror cease
America stop trying to be the global police
Start making friends in the Middle East
Learn again the foundations of peace.
